Presentation

This work, with spectacular illustrations, is a compilation of the intangible, immaterial heritage of traditional Catalan culture. It explains and showcases the traditional culture of a people. It holds symbolic, identity-forming, and social cohesion value, essential for any leading culture. It includes: the festive universe; traditional music, dances, and songs; the universe of myths; and traditional ways of life.

For the first time, a classified and ordered inventory is presented that defines us as a country. UNESCO, in the Venice Charter of 1964, recognized only monuments and sites, architectural heritage, or natural environment heritage, which have been widely disseminated, as World Heritage.

It was not until 2003 that the recognition of the immaterial dimension as an essential vehicle for cultural cohesion was approved and provided with material support (archives, inventories, museums, publications, etc.).

Slowly, cultural memory from all over has been collected, and thus, for example, the castellers, La Patum, and the Mediterranean diet (shared with Greece, Italy, and Morocco) have been declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
