Presentation

Autobiography of Catalonia showcases and describes about 900 documents, many of which are unpublished, that speak of our national symbols, our oldest institutions, the most significant events in our history, and also, the daily life of our ancestors.

For the first time in a work of this scope and format, the book presents the most important documents of our history, in addition to the most curious and unknown ones. The historian Daniel Venteo has searched for our documentary treasures in more than 170 Catalan and international archives: the National Archive of Catalonia, the Network of Regional Archives, the Vatican Secret Archives, the National Library of France, the Library of Congress of the United States, the Karlsruhe Library, and the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, among others.

It is essential to bear in mind that our documentary heritage is a collective wealth and that, in addition to knowing how to preserve it, we must know how to value it. Because it is our memory, because it speaks to us of those who preceded us but also of ourselves, and because it is irrefutable testimony to our way of doing and being, our history, and our identity.
