Presentation

The visual poetry of Joan Brossa is of undeniable richness: Brossa is internationally recognized as one of the greatest visual poets, if not the greatest. And it goes without saying that he is, indisputably, the greatest of the Catalans. His creative capacity allows the reader to enter a world full of suggestions and surprises, with images that are generally simple in appearance but laden with subtlety. This work has been curated by Glòria Bordons, director of the Joan Brossa Foundation.

For the first time, we present almost all of Joan Brossa’s visual poems that were published as silkscreens or lithographs; that is, those that were released as graphic works. Also included are the visual poems he created expressly for some of his collaborations with various artists, such as Joan Miró, Moisès Villèlia, or Fusako Yasuda, among others.

The works are presented in chronological order, so that the reader can follow the history and evolution of Brossa’s silkscreen editions. Each work is accompanied by its corresponding technical sheet, which includes the fundamental data of the poem: year of publication, year of conception, format, technique used, print run, and publisher.

The work is completed with a study book containing a portrait of Joan Brossa, written by Glòria Bordons, and an analysis of the author’s visual poetry by Marc Audí, very likely the foremost expert on the subject.
