Pau Casals. Music and commitment reviews the life and work of the master and humanist in all his facets: cello virtuoso, magnificent composer, orchestra conductor, and humanist committed to peace and democracy.

This work, directed by Josep Maria Figueres with the support of the Pau Casals Foundation, includes over 400 images and documents, many of which are published for the first time in this edition. For example, those related to the Francoist persecution or the frustrated attempt to perform El pessebre at the Vatican.

The author, a great expert on Pau Casals, has used the Foundation’s archives, with over 8,000 records and 40,000 documentary units, and more than 50 archives worldwide (France, United States, Puerto Rico…) to investigate the relationships Casals maintained in the various fields of music, culture, and politics.
