Catalan Posters. Late 20th Century
Presentation
During this period, an event of great significance for Catalonia, and more specifically for Barcelona, took place: the 1992 Olympic Games. A specific chapter is dedicated to this event, as it was of great importance in the world of poster art that the Olympic Committee commissioned posters from the most notable plastic artists and the best graphic designers, thus constituting an extraordinary collection.
The posters come entirely from the collection of the Biblioteca de Catalunya and are preceded by a prologue-study by the director of the institution’s Graphic Unit and art critic Dr. Francesc Fontbona, who places their value within the historical context in which they were produced.
Each poster is accompanied by a technical sheet that compiles the known data: author, date, dimensions, and graphic arts workshop.
The volume concludes with a historical, scientific, and cultural chronology of the period, an index of posters, and alphabetical indexes of authors and graphic arts workshops.
