Catalan Posters. The Post-War Period
Presentation
Francoism, as the Republic had done before it, gave propaganda a markedly ideological character, and posters remained highly visible in the streets of towns and cities.
The years encompassed by this poster compilation include the first two decades of the immediate post-war period, often referred to as the first post-war era.
The compilation begins in 1939 with the entry of Franco’s troops into Catalonia and concludes in 1960, the year an irreversible opening began.
The posters come from the Jordi Carulla collection, the main poster collector in Catalonia, who also contributes a prologue.
There are 200 posters organized into 10 themes and presented with a brief introductory note by Daniel Giralt-Miracle.
At the end of the book, there is a historical-scientific and cultural chronology from 1939 to 1960, an alphabetical index of identified authors and graphic arts workshops, and an index of the reproduced posters.
