Jaume Plensa and Vicent Andrés Estellés
Plensa | Estellés · L’Hotel Paris
Presentation
In the 1980s, Jaume Plensa became captivated by the book of poems L’Hotel París by Vicent Andrés Estellés. He made several drawings in the copy he owned and gave it to his partner Laura.
Moved by the book, in 1984, while in Berlin, Jaume Plensa gave his partner Laura L’Hotel París by Vicent Andrés Estellés, with a dedication and several drawings. Already on that occasion, in agreement with Estellés, he considered producing an artistic edition of the work, but the project did not come to fruition. More than thirty years later, the sculptor—who throughout all this time has continued to champion the Valencian poet—has revived that idea and has created, with Enciclopèdia Art, a bibliophile edition of remarkable originality and extraordinary sensitivity.
More than thirty years later, the sculptor has recovered that book and has created, exclusively for Enciclopèdia Art, a work of great originality.
Plensa/Estellés · L’Hotel París is a limited and numbered bibliophile edition consisting of a copper case and a cardboard case covered with black cloth, containing an engraving, twenty-three diptychs and six triptychs made of handcrafted paper, accompanied by six copper transparencies.
On this occasion, Plensa expresses himself through copper, conceiving metallic pages on which Estellés’s verses are accompanied by the serene Plensian images and, interwoven, become matter, transparency, word, volume, light…
