Catalan Posters: Political Propaganda and National Affirmation 1894-2018
Presentation
This new volume in the “Catalan Posters” collection is dedicated to political propaganda and national affirmation poster art, understood in a broad sense, including social conflicts, gender issues, pacifism, and the defense of language and culture. It compiles a representative selection of posters published from the late 19th century to the first decade of the 21st century.
This visual journey spans the years of the Republic, the Civil War, Francoism, and the Transition, up to the present day. It includes the work of prominent poster artists — among them Ricard Opisso, Carles Fontserè, Helios Gómez, Martí Bas, Català Pic, Joan Miró, Antoni Clavé, Antoni Tàpies, Cesc, Pilar Villuendas, Enric Satué, Frederic Amat, or Joan-Pere Viladecans — and posters from a multitude of political parties and trade unions, as well as from entities as notable as the Congress of Catalan Culture, the Catalan National Assembly, or Òmnium Cultural.
The volume is a fundamental tool for reconstructing the history of our country and for the sociopolitical study of decisive years in the affirmation of many individual and collective rights, some of which have been achieved over time, and others for which the struggle still continues.
